# Quickstart

> Get today's scores in your own code in three steps.

Get today's scores in your own code in three steps. You need a Plus plan.

## 1. Sign in and make a key

1. Go to [console.forwardmodel.ai](https://console.forwardmodel.ai) and sign in with Google or with a code sent to your email.
2. Under **API keys**, choose **Create key** and give it a name you'll recognize, such as "Research notebook".
3. Copy the key. It starts with `fm_live_` and is shown only once, so keep it somewhere safe.

## 2. Ask for scores

Send your key in the `Authorization` header and name the stocks you want:

```bash theme={null}
curl "https://api.forwardmodel.ai/v1/scores?symbols=COST,MSFT" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $FORWARD_MODEL_API_KEY"
```

The same call in Python:

```python theme={null}
import os, requests
r = requests.get(
    "https://api.forwardmodel.ai/v1/scores",
    params={"symbols": "COST,MSFT"},
    headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['FORWARD_MODEL_API_KEY']}"},
    timeout=30,
)
r.raise_for_status()
for e in r.json()["entries"]:
    print(e["symbol"], e["score"], e["band"])
```

## 3. Read the answer

You get one entry per stock, from the latest published day:

```json theme={null}
{
  "date": "2026-11-16",
  "of": 2926,
  "entries": [
    {
      "symbol": "COST",
      "name": "Costco Wholesale Corp",
      "date": "2026-11-16",
      "score": 6.83,
      "out_of": 10.0,
      "band": "Above average",
      "top_pct": 35,
      "summary": "A steady business whose members keep coming back, with thin margins that leave little room for rising costs.",
      "for": ["Members keep renewing at near-record rates", "More shoppers are coming through the doors"],
      "against": ["Thin margins leave little room for rising costs", "A slowdown in big-ticket spending would weigh on sales"]
    }
  ],
  "not_scored": []
}
```

The example is shortened; [The scores API](https://docs.forwardmodel.ai/scores-api.md) lists every field.
